About This Project
A talented artist, Benjamin Knox came to The Arkitex Studio seeking assistance with the design of his new art gallery. With the basic project design based on the original College Station train depot completed, Benjamin needed help with the finer details, architectural construction drawings, and permitting. Following the facility assessment, the renovation project entailed two buildings with a central enclosed breezeway. The main building or gallery included display walls with movable interior wall for flexible displays, sales area and a model train running around the perimeter of the building inside. The interior of this building had wood trusses and stained wood. The second building contained the restrooms, break room, offices, and framing shop. The project also included extensive site design with a full sized caboose and water fountain running down the train tracks. Visitors are welcomed with a walk over the tracks/river on the wood bridge to enter the Benjamin Knox gallery.
