About This Project

The client was in search of not only a new facility, but also a new identity as they planned to expand beyond the traditional functions of a funeral home company. The owners hope that this new facility will be the first step toward implementing their refreshed business model.

The architectural design is intended to be a modern interpretation of the more conventional “house-like” setting they have worked in for over forty years. The facility will have many of the same functions as their existing facility, however the new spaces will be larger, light-filled with tall sloping ceilings, expansive low-e clear glass, and wood accents. The public areas are laid out in a flexible manner to allow concurrent events, or one large event. The chapel can be arranged in a variety of ways for various sized ceremonies and views to the exterior. The event room can be used for meetings, presentations, dinners, and—most importantly—as overflow for large funeral services. Of critical importance was the separation of public and private zones while maintaining efficient circulation and security of the sensitive, employee-use areas. The new facility will be located near the College Station Cemetery and Aggie Field of Honor.
