About This Project

Contacted by leaders of the Brazos Valley Homebuilders Association, Bryan-College Station-based architects, The Arkitex Studio, agreed to provide a design for their showcase home to be built in the Villages at Indian Lakes. There was a very short timeframe for the design process as well as documentation. Ultimately this project did not come to fruition and so awaits an opportunity in the future.

Envisioned as a contemporary Texas Hill Country family home, it was designed for a heavily wooded and sloping lot with plentiful views. The architectural design incorporates a simple massing, alignment axes, abundant glass and contrasting use of rich materials. The rear was designed around a pool and other outdoor amenities. Originally targeting 3000 square feet of heated area on one level, the design expanded with the addition of an upper floor future buildout area. Extended timber-braced overhangs protect windows from intrusive sun. Maximum transparency is provided toward the northern views on the lot. Clerestory windows dump natural light into the open living area. If not built for its original purpose, we hope to find a client looking for something similar so that we can adapt the design and see it realized.
