Higher Education Project
Texas A&M AgriLife is a repeat higher education client for whom we have the privilege of designing unique research facilities. Arkitex Studio lead the design team of scientists, engineers, greenhouse experts, and robotics providers to create a one-of-a-kind facility which allows for future developments with the rapid advancement of technology.
The facility includes two greenhouses, connected to a head house by an enclosed link, as well as outdoor space for soil processing, storage, and root washing. The facilities provide flexibility for multidisciplinary research, including investigators from agriculture, life science, and engineering backgrounds. The greenhouses have several features that allow for unique research. A twenty-foot eave height allows for very tall plants, such as sorghum, to grow and the automated technology includes advanced sensors to monitor plant health, temperature, stress, other factors impacting crop yield. In addition, a robotic system with a sensor head, camera, and spectrometer travels the length of the greenhouse on a gantry beam, providing researchers access to the plants for constant monitoring. This facility furthers Texas A&M’s emphasis on world class research and facilities.
