Higher Education Project
Through a collaboration between the design architect, Arkitex Studio, and the architect of record, HED Architects, the new Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research will be a world-class research facility supporting its future growth. When the project is complete, it will include a Super Quail Facility which is comprised of bio-secure research labs containing breeding, raising, and training facilities and support structures. The project will also include administrative spaces, teaching spaces, indoor and outdoor event facilities, and a Quail Encounter which includes a pollinator meadow and bird viewing blinds located along nature trails winding through the artificial wetlands.
The mission of the facility is to help restore natural quail populations by training captive-bred quail to exhibit the same survival instincts and responses as wild-raised quail to improve their transition back into nature, and to educate future researchers and the public.
