What is Christmas without classic holiday films?
Not only is the nostalgia something that we enjoy, but also the time spent sharing such moments with friends and family. Imagine what it must have been like to share a holiday film in the era when film was seen only on the ‘big screen’…..in 1942 when Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire was the holiday film to see. And if you lived in Bryan-College Station in the 1940’s, you would have seen this film at The Queen Theater.
Holiday Inn is also responsible for so many famous songs that we remember around holidays. The movie won an Academy Award for Best Score and another for Best Original Song. “White Christmas” is always a song we love to hear during the holiday season, and we all love to imagine what it would be like to have a snowy white Christmas, even when living in warm Central Texas!
This is why we have chosen The Queen Theater for our gingerbread project. In addition to the associations with classic movies and music, The Queen is an icon of our local community. It was an integral part of social activities in its heyday, and it has been resurrected in its restored state to once again be a place to gather and share classic film with friends and family.
Though we may not get a white Christmas here in BCS, we still hope that, per the song, all your days be merry and bright!
